South Mountain Community College is using its on-campus Base 11 Innovation Center to 3D-print protective face masks for its public safety officers. Due to a nationwide shortage of personal protective equipment, makerspaces across the country are being utilized to help alleviate the pressure brought upon by COVID-19. SMCC engineering professor Dr. Carl Whitesel and lab manager Suzan Allaham are working together to bring these masks to local health workers and are hoping to scale these efforts statewide. You can read more about this feat here on the SMCC website: https://www.southmountaincc.edu/news/2020/south-mountain-community-college-engineering-lab-using-3d-printer-create-covid-19.
