The selected intern will map valley networks carved by running water during early
history of Mars and investigate why these valleys preferentially formed in some
locations rather than others. For example, surface characteristics such as slope,
contributing area, roughness, and topographic contour curvature may have
encouraged water to collect and floe downslope locally. The project involves mapping
with ArcGIS software on Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Context Camera image mosaics,
as well as collection of measurements from image and topographic datasets. The
internship will be virtual.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Actively enrolled in community college
  • Studying geology, geography, physics, astronomy, computer science,
    Earth/environmental science.
  • Strong computer and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge in computer programming
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Students must demonstrate a financial need
  • Must complete a pre-employment background investigation

Additional Details

  • Participants will receive a $5,500 stipend for the 10-week program.
  • Students will use and improve skills working with ArcGIS software by digitizing and tracking feature locations, transitions, characteristics and morphologies

*NOT OPEN* Blue Origin Summer Internship Opportunity

* This opportunity is geared toward engineering students at a four-year university and who are participating in the Base 11 Space Challenge. *

Do you have a passion for human spaceflight systems?  At Blue Origin, interns work directly under the mentorship of staff engineers to design, develop and construct human spaceflight systems. Each intern works on a real-world project in fields of mechanical design, fluids, aerodynamics, rocket propulsion, flight controls, electronics, avionics, enterprise software, flight software, human safety, structures, or systems engineering. Interns gain real-life experience that allows them to apply classroom learning to real aerospace challenges.

    • Students must also be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program and have at least one semester of school remaining after the internship.

    • Students should have at least one previous hands-on internship experience in engineering, or have worked with a hands-on engineering team on their college campus (such as rocketry, automotive, robotics)

    • Students who have obtained a junior or higher academic standing by the start of the internship are preferred.

     Additional Info

    • The start date is in May or June, and the program lasts 12 to 15 weeks.

    • Internships are available at Blue Origin’s headquarters in Kent, Washington, in addition to their facilities in West Texas and Cape Canaveral, Florida

    • Housing or a housing stipend is provided

    • Travel expenses to and from the internship location and your school or home are covered

    • Interns receive competitive compensation

*NOT OPEN* Autonomous Systems Engineering Academy Program

Do you want to learn how to design, build, and fly a drone? Through this program, students learn the fundamentals of aerospace design, computer-aided design, 3D printing, basic electronics, and fabrication techniques. By working in teams under the guidance of graduate and undergraduate engineering and computer science students at the University of California, Irvine, students also gain experience with business plans, rapid-prototyping, and collaborative problem solving.
